Apple Basil Vitamin Booster Smoothie

Take #2 on Green Smoothie Challenge Day 6.  Yesterday I was swamped with life and not home long enough to make a smoothie — that I didn’t have all of the ingredients for days 6-10!  I picked up the final ingredients yesterday and was eager to try out the new smoothie flavors.

Apple Lime Smoothie

Apple Basil Vitamin Booster Smoothie

1 Frozen Banana
1 Apple
1 Lime, Peeled
1 Handful of Fresh Basil Leaves
1-2 Cups of Coconut Water or Water

Instructions: Wash all your produce. Chop and put into blender with a small amount of liquid to start. Add more as needed until you reach your desired consistency.


One positive thing about being a day behind most other people on the Green Smoothie Challenge — I could make changes based on the reviews. So today, I reduced the lime to 1/2 and I added frozen spinach instead of basil. I still havent picked up any coconut water and I have been to 3 different stores in the last 3 days … and still keep forgetting!  So I went ahead and chanced it with Coconut Almond Milk.

Surprisingly it wasnt bad. The lime was just enough, but not too strong, texture wasnt as bad as I was expecting — kinda like eating applesauce baby food. But I’m sure that would have changed if I had added more milk. It was a bit warm, so I dropped in a couple ice cubes to my glass when I was ready to drink.
