Day 14 : Green Smoothie Challenge

Strawberry Orange Basil Smoothie

This ones definitely a keeper!  My son has watched me make our morning green smoothies for the last couple of days, and hen he saw strawberries and oranges he started begging for a sip.   Thank goodness it did not disappoint!  You know its good when a 10-year-old says, “I want one everyday”!

Today I added a scoop of Essante Super Reds Powder which is a powerful patented organic, pH balanced, bio-available, antioxidant,  rich nutrition & supplementation. It is made from 100% certified organic super fruits, OPE’s & adaptogens has one of the highest ORAC scores known. It is great to know that I am giving my son amazing nutrition, energy, longevity and unmatched immunity in a simple green smoothie filled with fruits and veggies!

Strawberry Orange Basil Green Smoothie

Strawberry Orange Basil Smoothie

1/2 Cup Fresh or Frozen Strawberries (or blueberries)
1 orange, peeled
1 Handful of Basil or Parsley
½ Rib of Celery
1 tbsp. Hemp or Chia Seeds *optional
1 Cup of Coconut Water or Water

Instructions: Wash all your produce. Chop and put into blender with a small amount of liquid to start. Add more as needed until you reach your desired consistency.

Like always, I used Coconut Almond Milk and it blended up nice and thick, added spinach for my greens and added no seeds. I thought there was definitely a strong “celery” taste, which is surprising since it only called for 1/2 a rib.  Also, frozen strawberries will yield a better flavor than fresh in my opinion, so if you have time … freeze them.

Day 13 : Green Smoothie Challenge

Avocado Dreamin Strawberry Smoothie

OK … This was the worst one yet, Nasty, Nasty!   Of course, I don’t like avocados, so that might have something to do with it…  Took one sip and passed it on to my hubby.  He looked at it and said it looked like baby poo — of course, he had some other choice words, but “poo” is the most family friendly!   Surprisingly, he said it wasn’t all that bad …

½ Large Avocado
1 Cup Strawberries (or frozen blueberries)
1 tsp. Spirulina (optional)
1 tsp. Chia Seeds or Hemp Seeds
1 Cup Spinach or Kale (or green of your choice)
1 Cup Coconut Water, Water or Almond Milk

Instructions: Wash all your produce. Chop and put into blender with a small amount of liquid to start. Add more as needed until you reach your desired consistency.

Keeping with tradition, I used Coconut Almond Milk and no Spirulina or Seeds.  I bought a Costco size bag of Organic Spinach last week, so that is my green veggie of choice for now.

Day 12 : Green Smoothie Challenge

Citrus Immune Booster Smoothie

It’s a dinner smoothie kinda day here in the Hooper House!  Left for the gym early this morning and been running around ever since.   Friday’s always seem to be like that for me…

As with many of the other recipes, this one called for water, but being the rebel I am (ya right!), I used Coconut Almond Milk and it blended up great! I really liked this one … the citrus was definitely strong, but that was good! I added spinach for my greens and only used about 1/2 a lime.   It was a bit warm, not as cold as I like … but likely because I only had 1/2 a frozen banana and had to use fresh for the other 1/2!

Day 11 : Green Smoothie Challenge

Sprouty Mint Green Smoothie

Well this one was definitely a swing and a miss for me! I wasn’t able to make it to the store for shopping items, so I had to kinda improvise. I had no broccoli sprouts (not even sure if I could find them), no mint leaves and no Spirulina. I had never even heard of Spirulina — have you? Well the world-wide web was full of information on this “amazing, high protein, superfood“… apparently its blue/green algae….ya, no thanks.

Banana Celery

Sprouty Mint Green Smoothie

1 Frozen Banana
½ Rib of Celery
¼ Cup Broccoli Sprouts *optional
1 Handful of Mint Leaves
1 tsp. Spirulina
½ Cup Spinach
1 Cup Almond Milk, Coconut Water or Water

Instructions: Wash all your produce. Chop and put into blender with a small amount of liquid to start. Add more as needed until you reach your desired consistency.

I am still using Coconut Almond Milk in my green smoothies. I did find some coconut water at Costco, however it was extremely high in sugar, so I am going to stick to milk for now. Since I was missing quite a few of the ingredients I went ahead and added the Essante Earth Greens which is a blend of organic grasses, vegetables, sprouts, leaves and high frequency minerals which assists in energizeing, alkalizing and provides whole body nutrition.

Green Energy Booster Smoothie

Hit the gym for another day this morning … and boy are my legs and abs T-I-R-E-D!!  Sure hope this Energy Booster Smoothie does the trick! As with my previous green smoothies, I used Coconut Almond Milk and did not add the ginger or Chia seeds. It was definitely one of the better smoothies I have had so far!
