Day 25 : Green Smoothie Challenge

Kale Citrus Detox Green Smoothie

So I’m a day late on Day 25 … Life was a bit hectic yesterday and I just didn’t have the time to squeeze in my smoothie.  Ok, well — I didn’t miss out much.  Nothing special about this green smoothie in my opinion.  I did mix with Coconut Almond milk and used Spinach instead of Kale, but doubt that would make a difference.  Not bad … but not likely one I would make again.  On a more positive note … tomorrows green smoothie looks YUMMY!!!

Day 13 : Green Smoothie Challenge

Avocado Dreamin Strawberry Smoothie

OK … This was the worst one yet, Nasty, Nasty!   Of course, I don’t like avocados, so that might have something to do with it…  Took one sip and passed it on to my hubby.  He looked at it and said it looked like baby poo — of course, he had some other choice words, but “poo” is the most family friendly!   Surprisingly, he said it wasn’t all that bad …

Avocado Dreamin Strawberry Smoothie

½ Large Avocado
1 Cup Strawberries (or frozen blueberries)
1 tsp. Spirulina (optional)
1 tsp. Chia Seeds or Hemp Seeds
1 Cup Spinach or Kale (or green of your choice)
1 Cup Coconut Water, Water or Almond Milk

Instructions: Wash all your produce. Chop and put into blender with a small amount of liquid to start. Add more as needed until you reach your desired consistency.

Keeping with tradition, I used Coconut Almond Milk and no Spirulina or Seeds.  I bought a Costco size bag of Organic Spinach last week, so that is my green veggie of choice for now.

Day 12 : Green Smoothie Challenge

Citrus Immune Booster Smoothie

It’s a dinner smoothie kinda day here in the Hooper House!  Left for the gym early this morning and been running around ever since.   Friday’s always seem to be like that for me…

As with many of the other recipes, this one called for water, but being the rebel I am (ya right!), I used Coconut Almond Milk and it blended up great! I really liked this one … the citrus was definitely strong, but that was good! I added spinach for my greens and only used about 1/2 a lime.   It was a bit warm, not as cold as I like … but likely because I only had 1/2 a frozen banana and had to use fresh for the other 1/2!

Day 1 : Green Smoothie Challenge

Pineapple Healing Cleanse

Pineapple Green Smoothie 1

Well, right away you notice the color — green! Guess I should have expected that from the name, but somehow I was hoping the smoothie would magically take on some pretty color that would make it appear more appetizing.

My kids looked at me in disbelief as I was adding the items (minus ginger) to my Ninja blender with about 8oz of water. I really should have planned ahead and had my pineapple cut and frozen. I prefer cold smoothies and by the time I got done, is was room temperature.

Also, it took a bit of trying to get the consistency down. I have a Ninja Pro and my first 2 attempts left me with the foamy, chunky liquid to the left — which was more chewable than drinkable.  I’m learning as I go, I guess.

My final attempt was to blend again with my Bullet juicer to breakdown the pulp further to a drinkable consistency.  You know, it really wasnt all that bad (once I got the consistency to a tolerable level) — I think I was expecting it to be worse than it was.
Pineapple Green Smoothie 2nd Attempt

Try it for yourself and let me know what you think!

Pineapple Healing Cleanse
1 Rib of Celery
¼ Field Cucumber (no plastic wrapping)
1 Cup of Fresh or Frozen Pineapple
½ Lemon, Peeled
1 Small Handful of Parsley
½ Inch Piece of Ginger (or less)

Instructions: Wash all your produce. Chop and put into blender with a small amount of liquid to start. Add more as needed until you reach your desired consistency.

PS — don’t mix with Almond Milk, I hear it’s really yucky 😦 (no I didn’t try it!)
