Day 30 : Green Smoothie Challenge

Purify Me Green Smoothie

The 30 Day Green Smoothie Challenge has come to an end and I’m kinda bummed :(.  Not quite sure what I am going to do tomorrow…

Today’s smoothie was filled with a bunch of things I did not have on hand, so I had to modify quite a bit.  But in the end, it really tasted great!  I used frozen bananas, kale, 1/2 an orange, some Essante  Organics Earth Greens (in place of Spirulina) and Essante Organics 7.365pH Chocolate Protein to pump up the protein content.  The orange gave a bit of a “tang” to the chocolate covered banana flavor.  Strange combination, but definitely something I will make again!

Day 26 : Green Smoothie Challenge

Thai Lemongrass Detox Green Smoothie

YUM, YUM!! This one should be called Tropical Paradise!  I did have to modify a bit … but well worth it!  I had no lemongrass, so I used 1/2 lemon and a handful of spinach.  I used unsweetened dried coconut instead of fresh and I added BOTH pineapple and mango!   Mixed with the Coconut Almond milk it was delish and is definitely a green smoothie I would make again :)!

Day 23 : Green Smoothie Challenge

Tropical OJ Green Smoothie

Ya, this one is a big NO GO — BLEH!  I really enjoyed the Orange Strawberry Green Smoothie from Day 14 so I was really expecting this one to be yummy as well.  That was unfortunately not the case.  It seemed as the celery was just too overpowering and there was only a slight hint of orange citrus.    Perhaps this one would be better without the celery?  I still haven’t picked up Spirulina, so I substituted my Earth Greens Powder, which is like eating 5.5lbs of organic veggies in my morning green smoothie!

Day 14 : Green Smoothie Challenge

Strawberry Orange Basil Smoothie

This ones definitely a keeper!  My son has watched me make our morning green smoothies for the last couple of days, and hen he saw strawberries and oranges he started begging for a sip.   Thank goodness it did not disappoint!  You know its good when a 10-year-old says, “I want one everyday”!

Today I added a scoop of Essante Super Reds Powder which is a powerful patented organic, pH balanced, bio-available, antioxidant,  rich nutrition & supplementation. It is made from 100% certified organic super fruits, OPE’s & adaptogens has one of the highest ORAC scores known. It is great to know that I am giving my son amazing nutrition, energy, longevity and unmatched immunity in a simple green smoothie filled with fruits and veggies!

Strawberry Orange Basil Green Smoothie

Strawberry Orange Basil Smoothie

1/2 Cup Fresh or Frozen Strawberries (or blueberries)
1 orange, peeled
1 Handful of Basil or Parsley
½ Rib of Celery
1 tbsp. Hemp or Chia Seeds *optional
1 Cup of Coconut Water or Water

Instructions: Wash all your produce. Chop and put into blender with a small amount of liquid to start. Add more as needed until you reach your desired consistency.

Like always, I used Coconut Almond Milk and it blended up nice and thick, added spinach for my greens and added no seeds. I thought there was definitely a strong “celery” taste, which is surprising since it only called for 1/2 a rib.  Also, frozen strawberries will yield a better flavor than fresh in my opinion, so if you have time … freeze them.

Day 13 : Green Smoothie Challenge

Avocado Dreamin Strawberry Smoothie

OK … This was the worst one yet, Nasty, Nasty!   Of course, I don’t like avocados, so that might have something to do with it…  Took one sip and passed it on to my hubby.  He looked at it and said it looked like baby poo — of course, he had some other choice words, but “poo” is the most family friendly!   Surprisingly, he said it wasn’t all that bad …

½ Large Avocado
1 Cup Strawberries (or frozen blueberries)
1 tsp. Spirulina (optional)
1 tsp. Chia Seeds or Hemp Seeds
1 Cup Spinach or Kale (or green of your choice)
1 Cup Coconut Water, Water or Almond Milk

Instructions: Wash all your produce. Chop and put into blender with a small amount of liquid to start. Add more as needed until you reach your desired consistency.

Keeping with tradition, I used Coconut Almond Milk and no Spirulina or Seeds.  I bought a Costco size bag of Organic Spinach last week, so that is my green veggie of choice for now.
